More than 40 years of commitment to education and health

Federal Councillor Paul Chaudet founds the Swiss National Commission of the International Union for the Protection of Children, also called Enfants du Monde.

The objective was to finance projects in the field of education in developing countries. In 1983, Enfants du Monde becomes an independent aid organisation.

Today, Enfants du Monde is an organisation specialised in the fields of basic education, maternal and children’s health with little bureaucracy and a high degree of professionalism.



Some key dates in Enfants du Monde’s history

1968

Enfants du Monde (EdM) is established

1970

EdM becomes a member of the Genevan Federation for Cooperation

1971

EdM is supported by the Swiss Confederation, various cantons and communities and has 1,100 members

1983

EdM becomes an independent aid organisation

1988

EdM decides to limit its geographic scope and sectors of intervention and to establish coordination offices in the field

Since 1993

EdM replaces its expatriate coordinators with local specialists

1998

EdM puts in place an awareness project on the realities of the South, specifically addressing children and young adults in Switzerland

2005

EdM receives a programme contribution from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation for the years 2005 to 2008

2006

Integration of the Institute for Development and Adult Education (IDEA)

2008

EdM celebrates its 40th birthday

2009

EdM obtains a programme contribution from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation for the years 2009 to 2012
