Presentation
If the Institute for the Development and the Education of Adults (IDEA) was originally an international NGO, founded in 1987 and established in Switzerland, it is today integrated to Enfants du Monde, a Swiss NGO also active in the field of Education in developing countries and that had been collaborating with IDEA since 1995. General objective The general objective of the IDEA program within Enfants du Monde is to develop quality education programs that contribute to the creation of fair society, in which freedom and equality can exist one day, thanks to the participation of the poor and the opressed. To guarantee the quality of the programs, essential values such as democracy, ecology, women and youth empowerment, community-based economy, conflict management, Human Rights, interculturality, inter-religion dialogue, good governance and sustainable development, are the cornerstone of all activities developed in the education process. Specific objectives Concretely, the IDEA program offers and develops education programs that respond to needs of the partner communities and favour their development. The approach selected is the Pedagogy of the Text (PoT) which not only enables the participants to acquire a basic knowledge in various topics (reading, writing, calculus for example) but also to develop psychical capacities allowing them to use their the knowledge acquired with autonomy, so as to have an impact on their environment and thereby contribute to development not only at the individual level but also at the collective scale. Within this framework, the IDEA program offers PoT trainings to trainers, counselors, leaders, researchers originally from various regions (Latin America, Africa, the Caribbean, Asia), through trainers training programs organized either in the framework of existing projects or in collaboration with Universities from the South. Sharing practices between organizations implementing PoT are, likewise, nurtured thanks to inter-regional or international seminars regularly organized. Finally, the IDEA program includes research and pedagogical evaluation studies on PoT implementation, aiming to continuously improve the programs offered and to guarantee the quality of educational processes. |
