12.05.2010 | 72 hours to put up a project
From 9 to 12 September 2010, more than 30,000 youth will be shaking up Switzerland: Within exactly 72 hours, hundreds of youth groups will be simultaneously realizing social, ecological, intercultural or public benefit projects – the thing is, they cannot request external financing and must therefore count on their own ingenuity.
What is it all about? “The 72 hour Action emphasizes the work of young volunteers from 15 to 25 whose mobilization force often goes unnoticed. The Action seeks to prove that the youth can be committed, enthusiastic and active within the society”, said Mélinda Quadir, of Enfants du Monde.
Enfants du Monde, which belongs to the Conseil Suisse des Activités de Jeunesse, the initiator of this national project, is taking part in the regional coordination group of Geneva. “Our role is to encourage citizen actions across the country.” Preparations keep gaining momentum. In French-speaking Switzerland, about 30 groups have already registered and are working out their projects – for example developing a playground, staging a theater play in a retirement home, organizing an intercultural dance course, etc.
The Action is aimed at any youth association in Switzerland, but also at youth who have not yet become members of an association. In the first Action of 2005, 20,000 youth and children had mobilized to realize around 700 projects.
